Name: Yosuke Hanamura
Canon: Persona 4: The Animation
PB/Image: Shown left (Warning: big fricken picture)
Info links: Here!
Canon Point: End of Series, including Ep. 26/OVA
Gender & Sex: M/M
Age: 17
Birthdate/Sign: June 22, 1994 (Canon)
Tattoo: Across right inner wrist; approx. 2 inches in length and 1 inch in width
Suitability: Yosuke shows great responsibility even for a teenager; as the son of a manager for a supermarket, not does he only help out with his store's business, but he also often handles both customers and employees hoping to get some discount or leeway through the manager's son. He worked diligently to earn money for his own motorcycle (though it unfortunately ended up being spent elsewhere by his friends), and moreso than that, often plays the conductor of the Investigation Team's meet-ups by starting the session, discussing with the others, and sometimes pulling them back to the main subject if the conversation strays.
When Teddie, a being from the TV World that the team had befriended, comes to their world, Yosuke is the one to provide a place for him to stay, and often acts as his surrogate father in keeping tabs on his whereabouts, such as giving him a personal cellphone. Yosuke's father and/or mother are only mentioned in regards to their supermarket, so it is likely that Yosuke provided for Teddie more or less on his own.
As for worship, Yosuke is most certainly a virgin as well as slightly homophobic. He is also very much a teenage boy, and though not readily apparent, has the sex drive of one. Directly from his wikia page-- "in Persona 4 Arena, if you play Yu's route, Teddie will ask you to get Yosuke a new nurse porn magazine, as his old one was burned." Once he gets over the initial "worshiping is WHAT" shock factor, it may take him some time to warm up to the idea-- though honestly, probably not too much. Yosuke is rather easily bored, and, well, what better way to spend free time than sex? Once he's done it once or twice (especially once he does it right), he'll take to the idea more. Yosuke's not exactly chivalrous or a hero of justice, but he does care what happens to the community, so that will be incentive for him as well.
Power: Yosuke has the Persona Susano-O, his final Persona which transformed during the team's battle against Ameno-sagiri when Yu was in mortal danger, causing a strong desire to protect him. It is summoned through a Magician Arcana card and is essentially an extension of Yosuke; its physical movement mirror Yosuke's (though sometimes this is not the case-- either way, it is directed by him), and when it takes damage, Yosuke feels phantom pain in the corresponding area, though actual injury is much reduced, if not completely negated. Susano-O's specific abilities and spells are listed here; they boil down to wind spells, a few physical attacks, and moderate healing spell. So I don't think anything would need to be capped, but let me know if you think otherwise!
Personality: Yosuke is, well... he's kind of a loser. In the beginning, he's clumsy and irresponsible. He runs his bike straight into a streetlight, and breaks a movie disc, which happened to be one of his classmate's favorites. He's defensive, somewhat irritable, and most notably over the top with his forced cheeriness and enthusiasm. Sometimes sardonically referred to as "The Prince of Junes", Yosuke is none too popular for being the son of the manager of a superstore that recently opened in Inaba. Junes is very successful-- and as a result, many local businesses were forced to shut down. While Yosuke had little direct involvement in the phenomenon, he was none-the-less damned by association.
He had a crush on a girl working part-time at Junes named Saki Konishi, not unlikely in part due to the fact she actually gave him the time of day. She seemingly jokingly told Yu to tell him off if he gets annoying, though at the same time she did express some happiness at him gaining some friends, noting that he didn't have many-- and that was being generous. In fact, Saki was the closest thing to a friend that Yosuke had. So when Saki ends up the second victim of a sudden murder case that popped up, Yosuke is distraught, horrified, and enraged. Resolved by the death of his love, Yosuke begins his quest with Yu to track down the killer.
... as I already gave away earlier however, Yosuke is not quite so well-intentioned as he seems. As revealed by his Shadow, he's actually much more irritable than he lets on, and in fact finds most everything either annoying or boring. He latched onto the chance of finding the killer not only for revenge, but in fact, for something to do, and the chance to do it with others. Lonely from being ostracized for his family's business, Yosuke yearned for the opportunity to gain popularity, respect, and adoration, and the murder case provided exactly that. Not surprisingly, it was also the reason for his tryhard attitude, which was meant both to reassure himself and be some desperate attempt to get others to like him. He's well aware of the animosity directed towards him, and admits that he even finds himself annoying.
Once he acknowledges his own resentment and loneliness, Yosuke winds down a bit and becomes more relaxed. Despite what his Shadow brought to light, Yosuke none-the-less still feels a duty to solve the case, and in fact takes it very seriously. He dutifully watches the Midnight Channel every night it rains, and immediately calls Yu after to discuss what was seen. Despite his lack of interest in school and his poor grades, Yosuke has decent deductive reasoning which helps the group solve the case. In contrast to how he normally seems, Yosuke is on the ball, quite prepared, and very driven for the case.
When he's not saving someone's life or trying to figure out who the murderer is, Yosuke is laid back and fairly chatty. However, he doesn't always watch what he says and can end up, as the wiki says, "putting his foot in his mouth", often annoying or angering his friends. He can also be rather theatrical; for example, when the guys are run out of the hot springs by the girls, he curses their luck and sobs. He can definitely be a bit of a pervert, but while he enjoys looking at a woman's body, he doesn't go out of his way to peep and he would never try to take advantage-- but he does go out of his way to maximize what opportunities he has, such as when he actually brings the girls swimsuits on the camping trip.
Speaking of the camping trip, when their underclassman friend Kanji comes and joins them in their tent, Yosuke automatically becomes suspicious of him, and actually aggravates him about his possible homosexual tendencies enough to make him go to the girl's tents to "prove he's not afraid of women". Similarly, in Kanji's sauna, Yosuke shows extreme discomfort and even says that he "isn't ready to lose his pure body". These homophobic traits may very well be a result of his own confusion about his sexuality-- during the group date, when Yu goes to the girl's side and is asked who he would choose as his boyfriend, his eyes lock onto Yousuke, who quickly becomes flustered and freaks out a bit, commenting that he "needed a drink to cool his head" and that "he almost crossed a line that should never be crossed".
Yousuke is in fact quite attached to Yu, and it shows in the way that he feels the need to be completely open and honest with him, and how he is constantly there to support him. After confronting Namatame, the group heads home. Once no one is left but Yu, however, he reappears with a concerned, sympathetic expression, and quietly goes over and stands next to him, supporting and comforting Yu as he breaks down on him. However, Yosuke also reveals that he's jealous of Yu for his popularity and the ease of his transition into country life. He is actually rather distressed by this fact, and asks Yu to "punch these stupid feelings right out of [him]."
Yousuke is at times both immature and mature, responsible and careless, and callous and supportive. He at first feared isolation and was easily bored, but has come to make unbreakable bonds and now loves the little town he used to hate. The trials he faced as the group worked to find the culprit have tested and grown him into a person who can be surprisingly mature and reliable when the situation calls. At the same time, he is still very much an awkward teenager who doesn't completely understand himself and still has a lot of growing to do-- but his experiences have prepared him and made him more willing and able to face whatever difficulties lie in the future.
